The Starting Line

To start I want to thank you for taking this journey with me. I am a physical therapist who has cerebral palsy(CP) and I am going to run a marathon. I graduated with my doctorate in physical therapy in 2016 and I have been teaching my patients how to move more ever since. I do not just like to teach movement I cannot stop moving myself. I am crazy about anything that gets my heart rate up like running, hiking, weight training, yoga, and anything else that gets me moving. Movement for me is not always the easiest thing. I have to be consistent with my routines, find creative solutions, and continuously stay up to date with the current research in regards to how it applies to me. I am obsessed with learning how to move better and I want to share with you what I find along the way.

My motivation to write this blog is to have a place to share my story, to empower those who need it, to educate people who want to know, and to connect with others. I want to share my journey of doing something difficult with CP and combine that with my education as a physical therapist as I raise money to practically help people. Here I hope you will find tools and resources to help you move more and the motivation to put those tools to use.

The inspiration for this blog came from the desire to run a marathon. Running a marathon has consistently been on the top of my goal list for years now. I ran track and cross-country in high school and I have stuck with distance running ever since. Even though I do not run the best however I am grateful to be able to run. I did not want to run a marathon just for the sake of running. I wanted it to be more, I wanted to be able to help others as I did it.

My hope with sharing these things is that you will find a little bit of yourself here. While this blog will focus on moving more with a neurological injury this blog will be for everyone. Getting up and working towards moving forward is a part of everyone’s life and I hope to inspire you to take one more step forward today. The reason I do what I do today is to develop others so that they may be included and participate to their fullest potential within their communities. This blog is just another manifestation of that dream.

I am also going to provide you a way to join me in helping others become more active. I will be raising money for a foundation that provides resources to help people engage in activity. Currently this is still a work in progress but there will be more on this soon!

I will end with welcoming any questions. Feel free to email me at or leave a comment. I would love to hear your story or answer any questions you have.

  1. This is a wonderful journey Todd! Very few of us feel capable of running long distance even if we were born with the capacity. We have different bodies that age differently and we live sedentary life and get lazy…your determination to overcome it all is deeply inspiring! And so is your hard work to give this sopport to others.
We all need to move, in small and big ways, to feel alive, to overcome worries and doubts. I hope this blog will wake us up!
